Candidate Services

The Difference

Watling Associates is a true search firm, not a recruitment agency and rarely if ever deals with advertised positions. We are called in when a job is too important, and the required skill set too rare, to be left to chance. We research our assignments thoroughly and then discreetly approach potential candidates with a specific opportunity.

Unlike traditional agencies, we deal directly with the decision makers and are able to negotiate with them on your behalf – so we do not merely deal with 'job specs' handed out by HR departments. This means that we have access both to unadvertised positions and those who ultimately decide who will fill them.

The candidates we deal with are currently employed, doing well and usually happy where they are. We understand that they are only talking to us because they are open-minded to the possibility that the opportunity we are discussing with them might better help them achieve their career objectives. Consequently, we know that our candidates' anonymity is of the utmost importance.

We NEVER reveal a candidate's identity without their specific and express permission (code of ethics: II.7)

The Process

The Preliminaries:

After interviewing you, fully explaining the opportunity, and establishing that there may be a potential match we will, with your permission, describe your background, skills and qualities with our client. This will be done in non-identifying terms, without revealing your name or employer. If, on the basis of this description, the client wants to meet you, we will then reveal their identity to you. At this point you can decide whether or not you wish to attend an interview. If you choose not to, your identity will remain secret and the process will end there.

The Interviews:

If interviews are arranged, the search consultant takes on the role of a facilitator, keeping you fully informed and prepared every step of the way. Before you meet our client, you will know exactly who you will be meeting, their background, expectations and the format the interview will take. After an interview we will ensure that you receive full and honest feedback and that any misunderstandings are cleared up.

The Offer and beyond:

At the offer stage, your consultant will act as an intermediary when and as required. This can be particularly useful should you wish to avoid becoming directly embroiled in tough negotiations with your prospective employer. We will screen any offer, according to your instructions, to ensure that it fully reflects your worth and expectations. We will also be staying in contact with both you and your new employer once you start work, to make certain the transition is going smoothly and all promises are being honoured.
